The Complete Beginner’s Guide to iPhone Screenshots

So you’ve just gotten your highest score ever in FieldRunners and you want to take a screenshot on your iphone to post it to your blog and prove to the world that you are the Supreme King of all FieldRunners Generals. But how do you take a screenshot on your iPhone and get it on your computer? Before version 2.0 of the iPhone OS, there was no really easy way to do this. Since the 2.0 upgrade, Apple has built this functionality directly into the iPhone OS — Click the Read More link below for the full guide on how to take a screenshot on your iPhone, step by step:

  1. Bring up the screen on your iPhone that you want to take a screenshot of — for example, I created a test note. If it really is FieldRunners (or another game) that you want to use, I suggest you pause the game first.

  2. Hold down the Home button (the round button on the bottom front of the iPhone) and then press the Sleep button (the button on the right side of the top edge of the iPhone). Release both buttons at the same time and the iPhone screen will flash white. At this point, the screenshot has been taken and it is in your Camera Roll.
  3. On your iPhone, go back to the Home screen and then tap Photos. Tap the Camera Roll album — the screenshot you just took should be the last photo in this album. Tap the screenshot to make it full screen and then tap the Email Photo icon in the lower left of the screen. This will bring up 3 buttons — tap the button that says “Email Photo” — this will open a new email with the screenshot image attached to the email.

  4. Address the email to your one email address and send the email. You can now open the email on your computer and save the screenshot image to your hard drive.

Now that you’ve got it on your computer, you can use it the same as any other image — post it to your blog or website, set it as your desktop background, or even email proof of that amazing score in FieldRunners to all your friends!!
